Man charged with auto break-ins outside West Ashley gym | News
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- Police have charged a North Charleston man with auto break-ins outside a West Ashley gym, one week after releasing surveillance footage of the suspect.
Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said officers arrested 24-year-old Terrance Lamar Myers on Wednesday. He is charged with financial transaction card theft.
Police say Myers broke into two cars parked outside East Shore Athletic Club on Ashley River Road by shattering their windows, and then stole a number of items on Dec. 3 around 5 a.m.
Among the items stolen were a camera, $600 in cash, and a cell phone, and a purse containing credit cards and bank cards, investigators say.
Myers was caught on camera using the stolen card at a Sunoco gas station on Dorchester Road shortly after the burglaries occurred.
This is not Myers' first brush with the law. In Oct. 2011, he was charged wtih possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of marijuana, and unlawful neglect of a child after police said they found a 3-year-old child holding a BB gun inside a stolen car in North Charleston.
Myers' criminal history goes back to 2006 when he was convicted of common law robbery and strong armed robbery.
In Oct. 2007, Myers was arrested and charged with manufacture and possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, distribution of crack cocaine, unlawful carrying of a weapon, resisting arrest and second degree burglary.
In June 2008, Myers was convicted of possession of meth or cocaine base and unlawful carrying of a weapon. In May 2008, Myers violated the conditions of his parole.
Myers was arrested again in Sept. 2009 when he was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of hypodermic needles and syringes. A month later, he was charged with burglary, breaking into auto tanks where fuel is stored and weapon sale / possession of stolen gun.
In Jan. 2010, Myers violated parole again. Then, in June, he was arrested and charged with possession of meth or cocaine base, resisting arrest and littering.
He is expected to appear in bond court Thursday.
